Going past the Church of San Giorgio and the arched door, you arrive at via dello Spedale, from here you can admire the majesty of the surrounding walls, built between 1200 and 1300 and enlarged by the Sienese during the fifteenth century.
The walls are made up of three sections, which give it the famous heart shape, the first section consists of the most ancient walls, the second by the walls built to connect the first walls to the church and the third the one that also includes the church and the new homes.
Six bastions were part of the walls, today only 4 remain, the first is annexed to the rectory and flanks Porta San Giorgio, two other towers in excellent condition are located along the walls towards the west, while a fourth has partially collapsed, of in front of one of the towers stood the Church of the Madonna delle Nevi, with an adjoining hospital.
